And...NOW it's the Last Week of Term 2!

I am losing my mind; it's official.  I guess because my own two children just finished their first term, I just combined everything to include Airport, too.  This coming week is the last week of Term 1 and I'm so relieved because I was in serious panic-mode trying to figure out how to get everything graded, stay coherent through this ridiculously awful cold, and do my mom duties.  It will all work out, however, as it always does.

We have a couple of special events coming up:  the volleyball team is going to regionals in Milan on Tuesday, and I have a couple of players in my classes, so I plan to try to make at least some of the game.  It's at 7:00, or so I hear.  Also, there is a Veterans Day assembly at 1:30 at Airport High School in the gym on Friday.  Ninth graders should wear red; 10th graders should wear white.

In the meantime, we continue on with our curriculum.  English 9 finished through Act III of Romeo and Juliet; my goal is to finish the play this week.  English 10 is done with Animal Farm and we've moved forward with our passion project, looking at poems that connect to their topics.  This week they'll start reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks which is a really great non-fiction book that deals with racism, classism, sexism, and medical ethics.  UofM College of Engineering used it as their one book/one community read this last summer and gave a copy to all incoming engineering students.  It's not a difficult read, but it's definitely an interesting one.  I'm really excited to start it.

So here's the schedule for this week:

English 9

  • Monday, 11/5 - prepositions; Act IV of Romeo and Juliet
  • Tuesday, 11/6 - Academic Advisory - finish Act IV and take a quiz.
  • Wednesday, 11/7 - prepositions; Act V of Romeo and Juliet
  • Thursday, 11/8 - PSAT/SAT Advisory - turn in reading log #8; finish Act V and take a quiz
  • Friday, 11/9 - finish anything for Romeo and Juliet reading or quizzes; get reading log #9; silent reading day.

  • Tuesday, 11/6 - Academic Advisory - bell work - type 1; finish HeLa preview; read pp. 1-7 - study guide annotations, vocabulary packet
  • Wednesday, 11/7 - bell work - type 1; independently read and annotate pp. 8-26 - Quiz Thursday over the reading
  • Thursday, 11/8 - PSAT/SAT Advisory - bell work - type 1 - turn in for the week; a quiz for pp. 8-26; read pp. 27-33 - study guide, vocabulary, annotations
  • Friday, 11/9 - add poem entries to Works Cited Document and share ideas with the group; discuss short story elements and structure; find a short story; add to Works Cited Document; read and annotate for next week.
There's the plan.  I hope everyone has a great week!
